Older Persons Commission

Transportation is available for people 60 years or older and those under 60 who are disabled. People under 60 may also qualify if they have a doctor’s statement. Let the OPC minibus take you anywhere in Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Oakland University, or the Troy Beaumont Medical Complex. You may use the Minibus for appointments, shopping, or to visit friends. The OPC minibus is a shared ride service. OPC expects all riders to donate $3.00 each trip ($6.00 for a round trip) or whatever you believe that you can afford. Escorts are allowed to ride on an OPC vehicle and must be at least 18 years of age. Escorts between the ages of 18 and 59 are asked for a $2.50 fare ($5.00 round trip). An escort is required if the rider has special needs that the driver cannot manage alone. If you are under age 60, please contact the Transportation Office at 248-652-4780 for the under 60 special guidelines.

Rochester Area Neighborhood House

Neighborhood House operates a handicapped accessible van for low to moderate income individuals who need to get to medical appointments, social service agencies or Neighborhood House for service intake.  Services are available for those who do not qualify for any other transportation services from OPC or other services in the community and have no other options available for transportation.

Transportation is available Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 3:00pm. 48 hour advance notice is required to schedule a transportation request. 

Eligible riders must live in the greater Rochester area including Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Addision Township and Auburn Hills.  Requests beyond a 15 mile radius require approval by the Executive Director.

Transportation requests are available on a first come first serve basis.

For over 20 years the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers program has been providing supportive service to older and disabled adults, allowing them to remain safe and independent in their own homes. All services are provided by dedicated, screened, trained & insured volunteers who help their frail or physically challenged neighbors with:

  • transportation and errands
  • minor home repairs, maintenance, chores and yard work
  • light housekeeping and meal preparation
  • friendly visits and supportive phone calls
  • respite care (relief breaks for full-time family caregivers)
  • and other assistance that can help someone remain safely at home.
